25 ( +1 | -1 ) Well...They have found the money for Leko-Kramnik, so it will happen in the autumn. The FIDE KO Wch will be held soon (at least Kirsan has said so) in Libya (I think there...). 2 more steps to go -- Kasparov vs FIDE Wch and the final match...
129 ( +1 | -1 ) Lack of unificationhasn't seemed to hurt Pro-Wrasling !? Boxers just collect belts here & there. Sometimes get them all. But otherwise 3 titleholders can get a good payday instead of just one. Seems like that toaster that defeated G.Kasparov should be in there somewhere tho! (I'd sure like to see a rematch there. I don't believe it would win it again.) .... I would be interested to hear if anyone has thoughts as to why unification or non-unification is more desirable. Seems to me like a "More-the-Merrier" situation as far as WC's go. Less chance of one player being able to usurp the WC title & avoid legitimate contenders I'd think?! And more chance to play vs one then in a tmt(???) or a simul. More WC games to study. etc. Would it hurt to have, oh seven WC's?. Maybe one on every continent !? Whenever a nation gets its own Chess WC then the game becomes more popular & newsworthy there. Thus, I wonder if non-U is not advantageous. And maybe it gets Chess into the news more, if there is controversy on it. But, otherwise it's really much of a non-issue to me tho, unless someone has some reason it should be important to me or to Chess. If not I'd just as soon have 2 or 3 WC's out there with their controversial claims (EG. Some have suggested that RJF is still the Legitimate WC.) & outrageous demands & behavior keeping the game more in the public eye.
