Message: maybe soon there will be limit 2 games for each non paying member???? ——— Chess: Pure beauty of the pawn endgame — The shadow of the pawn endgame hangs over all chess endgames. DK: After the splendid chaos of the King's Gambit, we turn to the purity of pawn endgames. It's worthwhile studying pawn endgames as their shadow lies behind every other kind of endgame that we play in chess. This may be a constructed position, but it illustrates highly practical themes. RB: The first move is obvious: 1 Kc3, gaining the diagonal opposition. But I'm making the move instinctively when what I really need is a plan. Am I trying to queen my a-pawn or my h-pawn? Or do I make a feint on one flank, then dash to the other wing? At the very point when precision is most needed, I often ...

Manhattan, you're playing 41 games! I don't think you have any right to complain!
Nikki ——— Hikaru Nakamura gives hometown US Chess Championship a miss — The annual US Chess Championship is the most valuable national contest in chess, thanks to a Saint Louis investment billionaire. Rex Sinquefield plans to make his home city globally known and to promote young American chess talent on the world stage. The 2011 title event has a $166,000 prize fund including $40,000 for the winner, and reaches its semi-finals this weekend. It has already sparked controversy due to the absence of the world top-10 chess grandmaster, twice former champion and crowd favourite Hikaru Nakamura. Nakamura is a Saint Louis resident and has been present this week as a spectator. This might sound a mega-snub to the sponsor but Nakamura is preparing for his ...

Janis ——— Finding That Eight Years Is Too Long to Stay Away — When this year’s United States Chess Championship began in St. Louis on April 15, there was a notable absence and an interesting return. The missing competitor was Hikaru Nakamura, the country’s top chess player and a two-time champion who is ranked No. 8 in the world. He did not play because he wants to compete only against the world’s best, usually in elite chess tournaments in Europe. But for the first time in eight years, Yasser Seirawan was in the tournament. He is a four-time chess champion and last won the title in 2001, when he shared first place with Joel Benjamin and Alexander Shabalov. Seirawan is 51, and the best part of his chess career appears ...

Message: the chances are slim to none that more than one player will play from the same computer at an internet cafe... ——— Upstarts Sneak Into U.S. Chess Semifinals — This year’s United States Chess Championships, which are being held in St. Louis, have produced some expected results, but there have also been surprises. The pretournament favorites, including the defending champions among the men and women, have qualified for the semifinals, which start Saturday. But two upstarts have also qualified and one top chess player was eliminated in tie-breaker games on Friday. Unlike last year, the men’s and women’s chess tournaments are being held concurrently. The men’s field had 16 players and was divided into two preliminary groups, with the top two in each group advancing to the semifinals. The preliminaries were round robins, meaning each competitor faced all ...

Message: does anyone have a possible answer to the original question?? ——— Chess Notes — And now for some unconventional chess. This game is Panchanathan v. Sadorra, played in the University of Texas-Dallas International, a Scheveningen tourney in which teams play each other and register both individual and team results. But who are these chess players, relative unknowns suddenly in the spotlight? Magesh Panchanathan, playing White in this game, is a 21-year-old Indian student at UTD who recently tied for first in the Philadelphia World Open and won norms sufficient to give him grandmaster status. His opponent, Julio Sadorra, is a Philippine who became a GM by virtue of his unusual wins in this chess contest. The game is from the fourth round in which Sadorra shows ...

Message: he/she is only allowed 8 games I believe. then as they complete games their total allowed goes up to a total of 20. If they are a paying member that
does not apply. Your player may have just a few games and 17 may be over his GK limit.
As far as the comment "money rules here...."
yes it does rule here and everywhere else.
I really do not think that Mike is providing this
site for nothing. It costs money to have this site
and therefore the people that want to play
need to be charged. This site isa good site
and the only way it can keep operating is by charging the members for a level of play and the ones that choose not to pay should not have all
the same benefits. Chuck

1/31/2003 16:35:21 Play online chess | The answer is that he....
Message: has probably exceeded his GK limit. If I
knew the person this is affecting we will
probably see that he is a non-paid member
who is relatively new to GK. This happens to
all team captains and the reason is always
the same. A person can limit the team games
he plays by telling the team captain. I do not believe there is anything in GK that you can
automatically limit the number of games you play.
the only exception that I know of is League play. In a League you can limit the number of games
you play. This does not apply to teams.
I wrote "astinkyfart" an email with this
explanation. A time back I wrote the Global
Bounty Hunters asking if they would challenge me for the same reason. I had a guy that I could not use in a challenge but could accept a chllenge if sent. He was exceeding his GK limit. Chuck

Message: need to get across to a team member
that is new to GK. If he wants to belong
to a team he should not take on any personal
games. If he has personal games right from
